FAQ

1. How do I book a session

Get in touch with me at safeharbourcounsellingcornwall@gmail.com or 07818617855. I offer a free 15-minute introductory phone call to check in with you, hear about your hopes for the sessions, and discuss how you would like to meet. We can get a first appointment booked.

2. How Confidential is Counselling

Confidentiality is at the heart of a trusting and effective counselling relationship. Everything you share in our sessions is treated with respect and kept private. There are, however, a few legal and safeguarding exceptions, which I will explain clearly in our first session.

An example of this might be if you, or someone you know, is at risk of harm or abuse. In my experience, when people share information like this, it's often because they want things to change and don't want their situation to continue — and I take that seriously.

I also share anonymised, general themes with my supervisor to ensure I'm offering the best possible support; this is standard practice for counsellors.

Finally, it's important that the only information I know about you is what you choose to share. For this reason, I don't offer counselling to people I already know.

3. How do I know my Counsellor will be a safe pair of hands?

How do I know I'll be in safe hands?

Counselling is not yet a protected title (unlike professions such as nursing or social work), which means that, unfortunately, anyone can call themselves a counsellor. This can be unhelpful — and at times even risky — for people seeking support when they're feeling vulnerable.

I am a BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) registered counsellor. The BACP exists to protect the public and help people find therapists they can trust. Being a registered member means I adhere to the BACP's high standards of professional, ethical, and safe practice. It also provides a formal route for escalation should these standards ever not be met.
